An encouraging entry list of 50 competitors took part in last weekend's racing programme from the ASMK
Pasta Poiatti National Championships for Autocross
and Motocross, at Ta' Qali. In both Autocross
sections, Modified and Standard, the competition was very close with no driver managing a clean sweep of three wins in the heats. Philip Joe Vella, Jonathan Camilleri and Gordon Johnson, all driving Opel Corsa, managed the highest amount of points in qualifying to secure their places in the Class A final. They were joined by Matthew Borg (Vauxhall Nova), Karl Micallef (Ford
Fiesta) and Noel Zammit (Fiat Punto). Johnson, Micallef and Vella raced to the first corner but as the race developed, Johnson seized the lead, a position he did not surrender until the chequered flag. Midway through the race, the marshals had to intervene following an incident involving Camilleri's Opel Corsa. Racing was stopped for safety reasons but resumed without delay after the tyre barriers were put in place. ... ...
